When the world around you feels chaotic, go inwards, and balance the chakras.
Some are calling 2020, the year of clear vision. Environmental disasters, the pandemic, economic hardship, and political unrest...an obsidian mirror has revealed our vulnerabilities, and where we need to heal.
It is a global rite of passage, and from chaos, comes an opportunity to rebuild. You may feel frustrated, grief-stricken, afraid, and outraged without knowing how to make an impact.
Remember: Change starts from within.
As you heal yourself internally, your inner condition manifests outward, shaping your words and actions and affecting the people and environment around you. This begins with balancing your energy centers at the chakras.
What Are the Chakras?
Think of yourself as a prism, something that absorbs white light and breaks it into a rainbow of colors. Just like a prism, the white light of the universe flows through your body and splits into colors at the chakras.
Meaning “wheel” in Sanskrit, the chakras are swirling wheels of cosmic energy that connect the body with the spiritual realm. The seven main chakras align along the spine, starting from the base of the spine up through the crown of the head.
Each chakra has its own color frequency, the vibrational energy of the universe that manifests into your body and being. The lowest energy frequency, red, sits at the base of the spine at the root chakra, corresponding to foundational needs like home, shelter, and financial stability.
Raise the vibration at the crown chakra, where high-frequency violet light flows. This energy center relates to your highest self and your connection with the universe.
When the chakras are balanced, the light energy of the universe flows through you freely. The mind, body, and soul dance in sweet harmony. Life feels joyful and abundant.
Life events, like stress and trauma, cause you to store tension in the mind and body and block your energy centers. The light from the universe no longer flows freely. Spiritual light starts to dim.
This becomes especially true during times of crisis. The mental stress of uncertainty, like fear, anxiety, and grief, trigger imbalances within the body. Like a river flowing, building a dam in one part blocks the entire stream. Similarly, when one chakra becomes blocked, it impacts your entire energy flow.
When the world around you feels chaotic, go inward. Yoga postures, crystal healing, aromatherapy, breathing exercises—these practices restore inner peace and balance the chakras during times of crisis.
ROOT CHAKRA (Muladhara)
Return to your roots by connecting with your Muladhara chakra
Color frequency: Red
Location: Base of the spine
Relates to: Safety, home, family, financial security, and fertility
Think of the root chakra as your foundation. When balanced, you feel grounded, a deep sense of security, and connected to yourself and your family. When imbalanced, you worry about safety and making ends meet. In times of crisis, people often feel anxious about money, jobs, or family and fear the unknown, which especially impacts the root chakra. So working on healing this chakra will promote strength and feelings of safety.
Root Chakra Healing
Grounding postures in yoga, like mountain pose (tadasana) or squats (malasana), connect to the earth beneath you. When you hold the poses, think of your feet as your roots and invite stability into your life through the body. Feel the energy as you remain rooted and set a loving intention:
“I am safe. I am strong. I am supported”.
Adding carnelian energies can also help you feel supported and reconnect to the root chakra.

Lockdown may have amplified addictive behaviors, such as excessive eating or drinking. You may become emotionally unstable and obsessive, checking the news more often than you should. This calls for healing the sacral chakra.
Sacral Chakra Healing
Meditating brings awareness to the emotional energy of the sacral chakra.
Take a few mindful moments out of your day to check-in with your body. Rest a natural citrine raw stone on the area and visualize an orange flower blossoming and cleansing this sacred space.
Ignite your Svadhisthana through ecstatic dance. Add more movement into your days and encourage energy to flow through your body.
SOLAR PLEXUS CHAKRA (Manipura)
Rise up and regain your self-worth by healing the solar plexus chakra
Color frequency: Yellow
Location: Abdomen, between the belly button and breastbone
Relates to: Personal power, self-esteem, sense of purpose
The Manipura embodies self-control and personal power. When balanced, you have clarity of self and ooze confidence. Blockages manifest through shame, self-doubt, and self-criticism— feelings often experienced in chaotic times that require making difficult decisions.
Solar Plexus Healing
Restore balance through pranayama, breathwork. Heal the solar plexus with breathing techniques such as Nadi Shodhana, which is alternate nostril breathing. Ease stress and anxiety by including a solar plexus chakra meditation mist to set the vibe and find your dhyana, zen.
HEART CHAKRA (Anahata)
Cultivate compassion with the heart chakra, home to unconditional love
Color frequency: Green
Location: Center of the chest
Relates to: Love, compassion, forgiveness for oneself and others
Driven by love, compassion, empathy, and forgiveness shine through the heart chakra. When imbalanced, we feel alone, especially important to consider during periods of isolation and lockdown.
Heart Chakra Healing
Open and heal your heart center with rose quartz energies. Reach a state of ultimate gratitude by honoring others through mantra meditation. Repeat:
“May all beings everywhere be happy and free, and may the thoughts, words, and actions of my own life contribute in some way to that happiness and to that freedom for all.”
THROAT CHAKRA (Vishuddha)
Speak your truth by connecting with the throat chakra, your communication portal
Color frequency: Blue/Aqua
Location: Throat, jaw, neck, mouth, and thyroid area
Relates to: Authentic expression, listening to others
Through the throat chakra, you can express your most authentic self. If you have a fear of speaking up or voicing your opinion, you may have a Vishuddha imbalance. In the backdrop of political unrest, riots, and controversial debates, speak up! Heal the throat chakra to express yourself clearly and listen with understanding.
Throat Chakra Healing
With more time spent at home, you can discover your dharma. What brings you the most joy? What lights you up and illuminates your truth? Find ways of expressing yourself through dance, writing, or any form of creative expression.
By practicing verbal mantras, such as ‘aum’, you can feel the vibrations and open the vishuddha, allowing you to communicate clearly in a calm tone. Create a sacred place to meditate and enjoy aromatherapy with the throat chakra meditation mist.
THIRD-EYE CHAKRA (Ajna)
Follow your intuition — let the third eye guide you to a place of inner peace
Color frequency: Indigo
Location: The space between the eyebrows
Relates to: Strong intuition, inner wisdom, the release of the ego
Have you ever had a strong feeling about something that's about to happen? That’s your intuition, flowing through your third-eye. A clear Ajna shows up through feeling focused and receptive with a sense of clarity. Imbalance shows up through a foggy mind and confusion.
Times of panic makes it difficult to see the bigger picture. Tap into this universal wisdom and connect to the spiritual realm through the Ajna. Trust her—she knows what's best for you and your highest self.
Third-eye Chakra Healing
Shift Ajna blockages by meditating with a 108-bead labradorite mala necklace, harnessing the transformational energies of this precious stone.
Repeat the affirmations “I trust my intuition” or “I feel connected to my spiritual truth”.
CROWN CHAKRA (Sahasrara)
Transcend from the physical world to the divine through the Sahasrara
Color frequency: Violet
Location: Crown of the head
Relates to: Spiritual connection, bliss, enlightenment
The crown chakra is a direct link to the source of all creation, where you can access celestial wisdom. Release ego-based decisions and live through your highest-self. If you can easily return to the present moment, you will know your Sahasrara is balanced.
A crisis forces people to reexamine preoccupations with superficial things like status, money, or appearance. You may need to reconnect to your true essence and the ultimate source, flowing through the crown chakra.
Crown Chakra Healing
Heal the Sahasrara by going within, connecting to the divine. Cleanse and realign with the master healing stone, crystal quartz. Remove any negativity that has built up, release stress, and reset your mind, body, and soul. Repeat the affirmation:
“I am at one with the universe”
